Simple Things You Can Do to Maintain Good Health During Your Pregnancy

by | Other Topics | 0 comments

Pregnancy is an exciting time for many women. If you are pregnant, is important that you do not take the responsibility of nurturing your unborn child lightly. Taking care of your own body will naturally provide immense benefits to the growing baby. Here are three simple things that you can do to help maintain good health throughout your pregnancy.

Stay Hydrated

A pregnant woman needs more hydration than the average person. The extra fluids are needed to produce amniotic fluid, build new tissue, carry nutrients from the mother to the baby, and flush out wastes. Being mindful of staying properly hydrated will decrease the chance of constipation and hemorrhoids, reduce swelling in the feet, decrease the risk of pre-term labour, and help the body to fight off potential urinary tract infections. This extra hydration is especially important during the warm summer months. You should aim to consume at least eight glasses of water per day.

Take Your Vitamins

Taking a daily prenatal vitamin is one of the easiest things that you can do for you and your baby. A prenatal vitamin contains all of the necessary vitamins and minerals that a standard multivitamin provides while also delivering the additional folic acid and calcium needed by pregnant women. Taking supplements helps combat B vitamin deficiency during pregnancy— which can cause serious birth defects, including spina bifida. It only takes a few seconds to take your vitamin each day, and it will ensure that you and your baby are both getting the nutrients and minerals that you need for a successful pregnancy.

Get Plenty of Rest

Growing a baby is hard work. Even if you do not realise it, your body is working extra hard to deliver crucial nutrients to the baby. Sufficient rest will help the body to more effectively increase the circulation of blood to the uterus. Listen to your body and rest when you need it. This is not the time to push yourself to the point of exhaustion. Especially as you near the gruelling third trimester, you should not feel guilty when you want to put your feet up.

In the end, the only thing that matters is a happy and healthy baby. You can do your part to achieve this goal by taking care of yourself and maintain good health during your pregnancy as you progress.
